YouTube Space Lab and Lenovo Announce Six Regional Winners in Science Competition: Two Global Winners’ Experiments To Be Conducted in Space

San Bruno, California (February 22, 2012) –  YouTube, Lenovo, and Space Adventures today announced the six regional winners of YouTube Space Lab (youtube.com/spacelab), the global science competition that challenged 14-18 year-olds to design a science experiment that can be performed in space.  In cooperation with space agencies including the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the European Space Agency (ESA), and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), Space Lab will provide two global winners the chance to have their experiment conducted and live streamed to the world using a Lenovo ThinkPad laptop from the International Space Station on YouTube.

LENOVO REPORTS THIRD QUARTER 2011/2012 RESULTS

HONG KONG, February 9, 2012 – Lenovo Group today reported results for its third fiscal quarter ended December 31, 2011, highlighted by record highs in quarterly sales, pre-tax income and market share, and the 11th quarter in a row that Lenovo has grown faster than the industry as a whole. For the ninth quarter in a row, the Company grew faster than any of the top four PC manufacturers, a result of Lenovo’s continued focus on balanced growth across all geographies, customer segments and product lines. During the third quarter, Lenovo recorded its highest-ever worldwide market share of 14.0* percent, and its highest-ever market share in China of 35.3 percent, an increase of 3.7 and 3.1 share points year-over-year respectively.

Lenovo and the National Academy Foundation Launch Mobile App Development Program for High School Students

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC – JANUARY 24, 2012: Lenovo and the National Academy Foundation (NAF) today launched an innovative program to teach mobile app development to high school students across the United States. Five schools from NAF’s network of career academies are piloting the program as part of Lenovo’s initiative to encourage greater student interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) subjects and to strengthen 21st century skills. This innovative curriculum will also strengthen NAF’s mission to prepare students for college and career success. N.C. Gov. Bev Perdue and members of Lenovo and NAF’s executive leadership team made the announcement today at Apex High School’s Academy of Information Technology in Apex, N.C., one of the participating schools.

YouTube Space Lab Announces 60 Finalists in Competition to Send Students’ Experiments into Space

YouTube Space Lab received thousands of video submissions from more than 80 countries, a remarkable number given the uniquechallenge of designing an experiment that could actually be carried out in space - something that has traditionally been the mission of qualified astronauts and scientists. Entrants not only described their science experiment ideas via video, but demonstrated and animated the procedures they were submitting.

Study Reveals Spirit of Adventure and Discovery for Science Strongest Amongst Youth in Emerging Market Countries

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC – November 17, 2011: Lenovo announced today the results of the 2011 Global Student Science and Technology Outlook, a multi-country survey that concluded students in emerging countries - India, Mexico and Russia - are prioritizing and pursuing science-related careers over students in developed countries, including Canada, Japan, the U.K. and the U.S. While virtually all (89 percent) of the respondents agreed that science is cool, only slightly more than half overall are considering pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering or math (STEM).
